BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES

[ Proclamation No. 798, September 12, 1991 ]

DECLARING THE MONTH OF OCTOBER OF EVERY YEAR AS MUSEUMS AND GALLERIES MONTH

WHEREAS, Article XIV, Section 14, of the Constitution provides that the State shall foster the preservation, enrichment, and dynamic evolution of a Filipino national culture based on the principle of unity in diversity in a climate of free artistic and intellectual expression;

WHEREAS, the cultural heritage of a nation is one of the foundations of nation-building and, to a great extent, gives direction to the shaping of national destiny;

WHEREAS, the rich cultural heritage of the Filipino people, depicting their aspirations for unity in diversity, deserves preservation;

WHEREAS, the Philippine joins the rest of the world in celebrating the World Decade for Cultural Development and has declared 1988 to 1998 as the Decade of Culture and Nationalism;

WHEREAS, there is a need to arouse the national consciousness and pride in our rich culture and national identity, expressed in all media of art and culture, historical and religious artifacts;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, CORAZON C. AQUINO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the month of October of every year as MUSEUMS AND GALLERIES MONTH.

All museums and galleries are hereby urged to undertake activities in accordance with the spirit of this proclamation. The Presidential Commission on Culture and Arts is hereby tasked to be the lead agency in carrying out such activities.ℒαwρhi৷

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
