DECLARING FRIDAY, AUGUST 24, 1990, AS NATIONAL MEMORIAL DAY

WHEREAS, Friday, August 24, 1990, marks the 40th day since the earthquake of July 16, 1990;

WHEREAS, in our best tradition as Filipinos, we call on the nation to remember and pray for those who died in that tragic calamity;

WHEREAS, the memories of those who perished in that tragedy and the heroism and courage of those who responded to the need for help must serve as inspirations for us especially in our difficult tasks of reconstruction;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, CORAZON C. AQUINO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare Friday, August 24, 1990, as National Memorial Day.ℒαwρhi৷

All our national flags shall be raised at half-mast on this National Memorial Day to honor those who died as a result of the July 16, 1990 earthquake.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
