DECLARING THE YEAR 1991 AS “THE CENTENNIAL OF THE PUBLICATION OF DR. JOSE RIZALS EL FILIBUSTERISMO” AND CREATING A COMMITTEE FOR THE PURPOSE
WHEREAS, El Filibusterismo, one of Dr. Jose Rizals immortal novels dedicated to the martyrdom of the three Filipino priests, Fathers Mariano Gomez, Jose Burgos and Jacinto Zamora, came out of the press in Ghent, Belgium on September 18, 1891;
WHEREAS, El Filibusterismo exposed the malpractices of the Spanish colonial administration in the Philippines and advocated the separation of the Philippines from Spain;
WHEREAS, the year 1891 formed part of the period of awakening of the Filipinos awareness as a nation;
WHEREAS, it is noteworthy to instill in the hearts and minds of our citizenry, most especially the youth, the relevance of Rizals ideals as embodied in the novel;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CORAZON C. AQUINO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the year 1991 as the centenary of the publication of El Filibusterismo.ℒαwρhi৷
For the purpose of formulating and devising ways and means for the effective execution of appropriate activities and/or projects for the commemoration of The Centennial of the Publication of El Filibusterismo, there is hereby created a Centennial Committee to be composed of:

The Centennial Committee is empowered to call upon any office, agency or instrumentality of the government for cooperation and assistance in the discharge of its function.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
