[ Proclamation No. 565, May 9, 1990 ]

DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM MAY 8 TO 14 OF EVERY YEAR AS RED CROSS WEEK

WHEREAS, in the accomplishment of its mission as an auxiliary organization designated to assist the government in its humanitarian tasks the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) has had to depend on public support for its financial requirements;

WHEREAS, during its existence of 43 years the PNRC has received and acknowledged with gratitude the support of the public in the maintenance of its National Headquarters and 84 chapters all over the country;

WHEREAS, there is a cogent need to increase the participation of the public to best expand Red Cross assistance to humanity by way of disaster preparedness and relief, blood program, safety measures, youth programs, nursing and social services;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, CORAZON C. AQUINO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the period from May 8 to 14 of every year as Red Cross Week.

I call on all citizens and residents of the Philippines, irrespective of nationality or creed, to reflect on the selflessness that has led many of our people to serve the Red Cross and to follow their example by generously supporting the Philippine National Red Cross.
