[ Proclamation No. 549, April 6, 1990 ]

DECLARING THE FIRST WEEK OF MAY OF EVERY YEAR AS NATIONAL TOURISM WEEK

WHEREAS, the governments immediate goal to accelerate economic recovery calls for a concerted and vigorous effort to improve the tourism industry;

WHEREAS, the proper projection and promotion of the Philippines as a wholesome tourism destination require that efforts of both the government and the private sectors be harnessed;

WHEREAS, it is desirable that the nation should celebrate at least once a year a National Tourism Week in order to remind the citizenry of the importance of tourism industry to the overall development efforts of the country;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, CORAZON C. AQUINO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the first week of May of every year as National Tourism Week. The Secretary of Tourism is hereby authorized to call upon any department, agency, office or corporation of the government to assist in the pursuit of the objectives of this Proclamation.ℒαwρhi৷
