[ Proclamation No. 514, January 15, 1990 ]

DECLARING THE EXISTENCE OF A STATE OF PUBLIC CALAMITY IN THE PROVINCE OF ILOILO AND SUBPROVINCE OF GUIMARAS, REGION VI

WHEREAS, the “crop failure” in the province of Iloilo and subprovince of Guimaras due to drought has affected about 10,000 families as 12,930 hectares of rainfed and irrigated farmlands or about 64% are totally damaged out of the affected 20,256 hectares, as reported by the Department of Agriculture;

WHEREAS, according to the Secretary of National Defense and Chairman, National Disaster and Coordinating Council, there is need to declare the areas under a state of calamity to ensure and facilitate the extension of relief/rehabilitation assistance to the affected farmers by the various agencies of the government concerned;

WHEREAS, a state of public calamity exists in the aforesaid areas arising from the effects of the existing drought.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, CORAZON C. AQUINO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby proclaim that a state of public calamity exists in the province of Iloilo and subprovince of Guimaras in Region VI.ℒαwρhi৷

All departments and other government agencies concerned are hereby directed to implement and execute relief and rehabilitation work in accordance with existing operational plans and directives and orders issued in connection with calamities.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
