[ Proclamation No. 299, August 5, 1988 ]

DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM AUGUST 1988 TO AUGUST 1989 AS “NATIONAL RED CROSS YEAR”.

WHEREAS, the Philippine National Red Cross the duly constituted voluntary organization officially designated to assist the Republic of the Philippines in discharging the obligations set forth in the Geneva Conventions and to perform such other duties as are incumbent upon a National Red Cross Society;

WHEREAS, in its 41 years of humanitarian service, the Philippine National Red Cross has continually shown itself as an effective auxiliary to the government in the field of disaster relief, safety, health and welfare; and

WHEREAS, the Philippine National Red Cross is recognized member of the International Red Cross which celebrates its 125 Anniversary this year;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, CORAZON C. AQUINO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the period from August 1988 to August 1989 as “National Red Cross Year”.

I hereby call upon all residents of the Philippines to turn their thoughts to and be a part of the noble undertakings of this great organization which, as a dynamic member of the International Red Cross, is doing the best it can to help promote the spirit of peace, particularly in our country.1aшphi1

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
