DECLARING THE FIRST WEEK OF JULY OF EVERY YEAR AS NATURAL DISASTER CONSCIOUSNESS WEEK
WHEREAS, the Philippines is highly vulnerable to natural disasters, such as typhoon, flood, earthquake, tornado, landslide, storm surge, volcanic eruption, tsunami and drought;
WHEREAS, the Filipino people by being conscious of these ever threatening calamities, can better appreciate a disaster preparedness program aimed at saving lives, protecting property, preventing needless sufferings and minimizing damages during natural disasters, thus mitigating their effects; and
WHEREAS, the government recognizes the value of setting aside a designated period for the people to focus their attention on the need to prepare for natural disasters;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CORAZON C. AQUINO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the first week of July of every year as Natural Disaster Consciousness Week to be observed by schools and communities throughout the country.
The National Disaster Coordinating Council, the Regional Disaster Coordinating Councils shall take the lead in the celebration of this week.1aшphi1
