[ Proclamation No. 266, June 8, 1988 ]

DECLARING EVERY SECOND SUNDAY OF MAY AS “MOTHERS DAY” AND THIRD SUNDAY OF JUNE AS “FATHERS DAY” IN THE PHILIPPINES.

WHEREAS, the Constitution of the Republic of the Philippines declares that “Marriage, as an inviolable social institution, is the foundation of the family and shall be protected by the State”;

WHEREAS, the wholesome growth and normal activities of the family are in the hands of the parents, the wise exercise of whose authority is essential to the fulfillment of the natural and proper ends of the family; and

WHEREAS, it is only fitting and proper to dedicate certain days of the year to confer tribute to the important role of the Filipino mothers and fathers in instilling and fostering love, respect, discipline, industry and enterprise within their home and the community where they belong, and to further manifest the ideals and virtues of good parenthood;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, CORAZON C. AQUINO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the second Sunday of May as “Mothers Day” or “ARAW NG MGA INA” and the third Sunday of June as “Fathers Day” or “ARAW NG MGA AMA”.1aшphi1

This supersedes Proclamation No. 2037, dated November 27, 1980.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
