[ Proclamation No. 106, May 11, 1987 ]

REVOKING PROCLAMATION NO. 1497 AND REVERTING CERTAIN AREAS LOCATED IN THE MUNICIPALITIES OF HINUNANGAN, SAN JUAN AND ST. BERNARD, PROVINCE OF SOUTHERN LEYTE, TO THE STATUS OF FOREST LAND.

WHEREAS, it has been brought to the knowledge of the Government that the large tract of land reserved for settlement purposes under Proclamation No. 1497 dated 11 September 1975, located in Hinunangan, San Juan and St. Bernard, Southern Leyte, has not been developed as intended in the proclamation; and

WHEREAS, said area is being exploited instead by illegal loggers and logs smugglers to the detriment of the Government and national interest;

NOW, THEREFORE, upon the recommendation of the Secretary of Natural Resources, I, CORAZON C. AQUINO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby revoke Proclamation No. 1497, dated September 11, 1975, and revert the classification of the land covered thereby as forest area, subject to the jurisdiction of the Department of Natural Resources.
