[ Proclamation No. 54, December 19, 1986 ]

DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM DECEMBER 23 TO 30 OF EVERY YEAR AS RIZAL WEEK

WHEREAS, December 20 of every year marks the death anniversary of Dr. Jose P. Rizal, patriot, martyr and national hero; and

WHEREAS, there is need to declare a week each year as Rizal Week to give more time in which various activities to commemorate Rizal’s martyrdom would be fully coordinated to attain their full significance and impact to the nation.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, CORAZON C. AQUINO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the period from December 23 to 30 of every year as Rizal Week.

I call upon the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports, other government agencies/instrumentalities and concerned organizations to extend full support to the programs and activities planned for the week.1aшphi1

I likewise call upon all citizens and residents of the Philippines, irrespective of race and creed, to participate and support the Rizal Week activities.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
