[ Proclamation No. 14, June 7, 1986 ]

DECLARING JUNE 9, 1986 CORRESPONDING TO THE 1ST SHAWWAL, 1406 HIJRA IN THE ISLAMIC LUNAR CALENDAR AS A SPECIAL MUSLIM HOLIDAY IN COMMEMORATION OF THE ID-UL-FITRI (HARI RAYA PUASA), THE END OF THE FASTING MONTH OF RAMADHAN.

WHEREAS, Id-ul-Fitri or Hari Raya Puasa is one of the important holidays of the Muslims commemorating the end of the fasting month of Ramadhan in the Islamic Hijra calendar which is recognized as a legal Muslim holiday pursuant to Article 169 of Presidential Decree No. 1083 dated February 4, 1977;

WHEREAS, the 1st of Shawwal in the Hijra calendar in the current Islamic year 1406 Hijra corresponds to June 9, 1986 in the Gregorian calendar, is the feast of Id-ul-Fitri or Hari Raya Puasa being celebrated all over the Muslim World;

WHEREAS, said Muslim holiday may be officially observed in the provinces and cities enumerated in Article 170 of the above Presidential Decree as well as the exemption of all Muslim government officials and employees other than those enumerated in the said Article, the date of which shall be determined by proclamation by the President of the Philippines in accordance with the Muslim Lunar Calendar (Hijra); and

WHEREAS, the Office of Muslim Affairs and Cultural Communities has officially advised the Office of the President of the date in the current Hijra calendar that the Id-ul-Fitri or Hari Raya Puasa falls on June 9, 1986;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, CORAZON C. AQUINO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare June 9, 1986 as a special legal holiday in all the cities and provinces within the Regions of Autonomy (Regions IX and XII) in Southern Philippines, including the provinces of South Cotabato, Davao del Sur and Palawan and the cities of General Santos, Davao City and Puerto Princesa.

All Muslim government officials and employees in places other than those covered in the above Regions of Autonomy, provinces and cities are hereby excused from reporting to office as provided for under Article 170 of Presidential Decree No. 1083, including Muslim employees in private offices, agencies or establishments without reduction in their usual compensation as provided for under Article 172 of the same decree.1aшphi1
