DECLARING NOVEMBER 18-24, 1985 AS NATIONAL POETRY WEEK

WHEREAS, cognizant of the creative soul and poetic spirit of the Filipino, it is fitting that a National Poetry Week be observed to celebrate the Filipino poets and to promote their literary works which embody the dreams, ideals and aspirations of the Filipino people.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Republic of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested on me by the Constitution, do hereby proclaim:

That November 18-24, 1985 of this year and every year hereafter be celebrated as National Poetry Week;

That all agencies, instrumentalities and offices of government, including those performing proprietary functions, particularly those in the media, are hereby enjoined to render the necessary national and technical and supervise relevant projects or programs, to be composed of the following:

1. Minister Jaime C. Laya, Chairman, for Government

2. Acting Minister Pacifico Castro, Chairman, UNESCO, National Commission of the Philippines

3. Director Virginia R. Moreno, Co-Chairman, Non-Governmental Organizations

4. Minister Jose D. Aspiras, Vice-Chairman

5. Mr. Maro L. Santaromana, Co-Vice-Chairman (NGO)

6. Minister Gregorio Cendana, Government Member

7. Minister Manuel Alba, Government Member

8. Hon. Roman A. Cruz, Jr., Government Member

9. Director Serafin D. Quiason, Government Member

10. Mr. Hilario S. Francia, NGO Member

11. Prof. Raul R. Ingles, NGO Member

12. Dr. Lucrecia Kasilag, NGO Member

13. Mrs. Rebecca C. Patrimonio, Executive Secretary

initially in coordination with the group handling the UNESCO-funded 1985 Manila International Poetry Festival and Video Filming and Recording of the Living Voices of Poets at the Festival to be held in the Philippines;

That full support in terms of publicity, promotion, and other facilities of the said National Poetry Week and attendant Poetry Festival and related activities be granted by government agencies.1aшphi1
