NUMBER AND ALLOCATION OF ELECTIVE MEMBERS OF SANGGUNIANG PANLUNGSOD AND SANGGUNIANG BAYAN FOR PURPOSES OF THE MAY 14, 2001 NATIONAL AND LOCAL ELECTIONS
WHEREAS, after the May 11, 1998 national and local elections, several municipalities have been converted into cities and others have been created, thus:
A. CONVERTED INTO A CITY:
WHEREAS, the conversion of the above-named municipalities into component cities as well as the creation of the new municipalities have been ratified in the plebiscites conducted for the purpose;
WHEREAS, in addition, the municipalities of Bacon and Sorsogon, both in the Province of Sorsogon, have been merged and converted into a city, and their merging and conversion have been ratified in the plebiscite conducted for the purpose;
WHEREAS, Republic Act No. 8806 entitled "An Act Creating the City of Sorsogon By Merging the Municipalities of Bacon and Sorsogon in the Province of Sorsogon and Appropriating Funds Therefor" provides for, among others, twelve (12) regular sanggunian members to be elected by districts with each district electing four (4) members;
WHEREAS, in view of the above, there is need to fix the number of elective members of sangguniang panlungsod and sangguniang bayan for purposes of the May 14, 2001 national and local elections;
NOW, THEREFORE, by virtue of the powers vested in it by the Constitution, the Omnibus Election Code, Republic Act Nos. 6636, 7166, 7887 and other election laws, the Commission RESOLVED as it hereby RESOLVES to fix the number of elective members of the sangguniang panlungsod and sangguniang bayan nationwide as shown in Annex "A" hereof, which annex shall form an integral part of this Resolution.
Let the Education and Information Department publish this Resolution in two (2) daily newspapers of general circulation in the Philippines, and to furnish copies thereof to all Regional Election Directors, Provincial Election Supervisors and Election Officers.
